The intention of Marina’s Blue Kennel is to accomplish an American bulldog breeding of precision and perfection in South Africa.
We value the American bulldog’s outstanding nature and physique.
The American Bulldog is an athletic, temperamentally sound and medium to large sized dog that possesses great strength, agility and confidence. The expression should reflect intelligence and alertness.
The American Bulldog bloodlines are generally known to be the Johnson or Classic type and the Scott or performance type.
However, after some generations these two distinct types have been thinned and it is now more true to believe that most American Bulldogs are hybrids of these two types.
The bloodlines at Marina’s Blue Kennel are the progenies of the Johnson and the Scott types.
American Bulldogs was brought over by colonist to America, where they were mainly used as farm guards, stock dogs driving cattle and as pack dogs to hunt or tree bears.
It is believed to be the closest surviving relative of the original English Bulldog which has survived unchanged in remote rural communities just as it was when it was still a working breed rather than the present-day English bulldog.
Records do exist which show that bulldogs were exported to America and many existing British canvases and sculptures show bulldogs which look similar to American Bulldogs.
