Puppy life ...

My love for the American Bulldog breed sets my focus on creating a satisfying life for our dogs and their puppies. They are part of our home and our lifestyle.

When the puppies are born, it is always a very exciting time for me, as I act as a canine midwife. I assist in the birthing, ensuring that the mothers are comfortable

and that the newborn puppies nurse well and are warm. It's very rewarding to see a new puppy nursing on its proud mother.

The birth room is next to our bedroom so that I can always hear if a puppy calls.
I remain enthusiastic even when I've been up all night.

Our American Bulldogs are very good mothers and I hardly have to worry during the night.
As soon as the puppies' eyes open and they start to wonder around I let them spend
time outside.

At 4 weeks they are moved to the puppy camp.
My husband built a lovely safe playground where they can explore and learn.

They sleep in a spacious kennel, warmed with blankets and a heater. Stimulating toys are scattered around on the sand floor. The puppies are introduced to solid food as soon as their eyes open.

It takes a while to teach every little one how to eat. They will nurse less at this stage and the extra nutrition makes for a healthy strong and resistant pup.

Feeding time for the puppies is amusing, since they absolutely love their food!

I feed them 4 times a day up to the age of 6 weeks, then I feed them 3 times a day until puppies go to their new owners when they are 8 weeks old. As soon as the puppies can walk and explore their surroundings, I allow the adult dogs to socialize with them. My adult dogs love the puppies and play with them gently.
